September Education Meeting
Ethics
Several months ago, CFP Board announced the adoption of an updated Standards of Professional Conduct, declaring a new standard of professional conduct for all CFP® certificants. The impact of the new standards continues to reverberate throughout the financial services industry and the financial planning profession. A reasonable question to ask would be - why? Why has the current revision of a long-standing document caused so much concern? The answer is both simple and complex, and can be identified with one word - fiduciary. For the first time, CFP Board has included a fiduciary standard in the Code of Ethics.

Michael Snowdon, a faculty member of the College for Financial Planning, will examine the Code of Ethics - its history, the new standards - including the fiduciary requirement, and whether there is even a need for such a set of standards. We will look at the Board's responses to many of the questions that have been asked; questions you may have yourself. Finally, we will consider the new Code of Ethics and how it impacts clients, CFP certificants, and the entire financial planning profession.
